Perma-Bound History
Perma-Bound, a division of Hertzberg-New Method Inc. has been a leader in the book rebinding industry for over 65 years.
Hertzberg-New Method Bindery opened in its current location in South Jacksonville, Illinois on June 17th, 1954. In the mid 1960's Hertzberg-New Method began a new division of reinforced paperback books that would become known as Perma-Bound Books, and thus started the line of products that schools and libraries nationwide view as, "the strongest books you can buy."
Perma-Bound originated from three separate companies coming together to combine their rebinding work into one location. Two of these companies were owned by members of the Hertzberg family, Lawrence Hertzberg of Monastery Hill Bindery in Chicago and Ernest Hertzberg of Hertzberg Craftsmen Bindery in Des Moines, Iowa. The combination of these binderies is what formed over 160 years of binding experience, which is now the foundation of Perma-Bound Books.
With this basis of knowledge and experience, we set the standard that the industry would follow, by being the first to offer an unconditional guarantee on our Perma-Bound books. We also set yet another standard for the industry to follow by being the first to offer the laminated book cover.
Perma-Bound has been family owned and operated since its beginning. We pride ourselves on offering our customers big business service, knowledge, and experience, but with a small town feel and personalized customer service.
