Froggy's mom agrees to let him have a pet, and after a little convincing, Froggy leaves the animal shelter with a dog. Froggy says he understands the responsibilities of taking care of a dog, but training a dog is harder than he thought. Child-friendly illustrations and a slew of quirky sound effects make this relatable story a great read-aloud.

PreS-Gr 1 In this long running series, Froggy has played soccer and T-ball, learned to swim, gone on a play date, baked a cake, and vacationed in Hawaii, among other things. Now he gets a dog. As the family searches for the best pet, he is determined to bring home a puppy even though his mother tells him how much work it will be. Though the pup isn't all Froggy expected-in one scene he fetches mom's underwear instead of a stick-Froggy bonds with the pet after cuddling in bed and waking up to wet puppy kisses. Froggy is a bit dismayed when the day begins again with a trip outside with the dreaded pooper scooper. London writes with a focus on creating a lively read-aloud experience, while offering an important lesson about responsibility. The saturated cartoon images of this iconic series show lots of movement. Froggy fans will enjoy this latest installment. Jennifer Miskec, Longwood University, Farmville, VA

Froggy knows what he wants and it's NOT a bunny, an alligator, or mice! In this twenty-third book about the beloved amphibian, London delivers a quickly moving episode centered on a desire that's near and dear to most children dog. The familiar onomatopoeic words are ever present, as are the elongated ones: "FRROOGGYY!" Dog training is Mom's top priority, and Froggy learns quickly that gaining obedience from a dog is not quickly accomplished. Even a loving pet can produce some embarrassing moments. Peppy illustrations capture Froggy with his new pup, as well as his disdain for the dreaded pooper-scooper. This one won't disappoint his loyal fans.

Froggy is getting a pet—and only a dog will do!

Mom has agreed:  Froggy can have a pet.  Off to the pet store they go.  Mom would prefer a bunny or some mice, but Froggy and his little sister, Pollywogilina, have their hearts set on a doggy.  And when Froggy sees the little dog with big brown eyes, he begs to take her home.

Froggy promises he’ll take care of Doggy: put on her collar, take her for a walk, and teach her to sit up and beg. But Doggy proves harder to train than Froggy anticipated—and he’d forgotten about pooperscooper duty!
