The history-making "one giant leap for mankind" is now fairly well-trod territory, but the graphic-novel format of this installment in the Extraordinary Explorers series gives it a fresh, accessible presentation, focusing tightly on the moments leading up to the launch, the lunar landing, and reentry into earth's atmosphere. Although the straightforward, factual text provides not much more than the necessary narration, the dialogue between characters is peppered with both era-appropriate slang to cultivate atmosphere and enough space terminology to teach readers some key vocabulary. Though the characters' faces are occasionally indistinguishable, the rest of the art is pleasant and makes intelligent use of space and page layouts. Packed with helpful historical information and in a comic-book format, this easy-to-read title will be a great pick for reluctant readers.
