Horn Book
An attractive, accessible look at the travels of water, from snow to the ocean, via brooks, streams, and rivers. Brief mention is made of floods, dams, pollution, and formations such as deltas and meanders. Attractively illustrated in pen-and-ink and watercolor.
School Library Journal
K-Gr 4-- An excellent presentation of introductory material about water. Addressing readers in the second-person you,'' it clearly explains such terms as
brook,'' stream,''
river,'' and ``delta,'' and illustrates such basic concepts as where water comes from, how it travels, and where it goes. The illustrations are simple, almost childlike, in soft colors. In a few cases, however, it is difficult to distinguish between water and land because the contrast in tone is subtle; otherwise, the artwork is pleasant and effective. Comparable titles include From Ice to Rain (Carolrhoda, 1981) by Marlene Reidel and Diane Tippell's Water (Silver Burdett, 1986). --Rosie Peasley, Somerset School, Modesto, CA
