Sesame Street character Grover journeys to Israel, where he sends e-mail greetings describing his adventures to his puppet pals. He arrives in Tel Aviv just in time to prepare for Shabbat, and he later visits the Western Wall, participates in an archaeological dig, shops at the Machane Yehuda market, volunteers on a kibbutz, climbs to the top of Masada, swims in the Dead Sea, enjoys tea with some Bedouins, and scuba dives with the dolphins before returning home. Leigh's bright illustrations depict everyone (including humans) in a cartoon style, but his artwork remains respectful of the places he portrays, particularly the Western Wall, a holy site where men and women pray separately. Balsley and Fischer accurately capture the voice and mannerisms of Grover, and their selections of locales and cultural details (falafels, clothing, climate) are both representative and significant. This will be appreciated by fans of the other Shalom Sesame series titles, including the authors' It's a Mitzvah, Grover! (2013), and be useful for religious school collections.
