A young boy distracts his dad from the inevitable tuck-in by using his imagination to turn bedtime into playtime. Strewn-about toys dictate the course of his imagination as a large train calls for a conductor and "full-steam-ahead," a jet brings on a "turbo-blast," a ship generates "anchors-aweigh," and more. As the room darkens, a space shuttle and an astronaut lead to a blastoff, wherein the tuck-in finally takes place. Both boy and dad collapse on the bed, dreaming of space suits and a moon landing. Bedtime (and the avoidance thereof) is a common picture-book theme, and this follows the usual path, as some raucous, good-natured play ends with the child drifting off to sleep. However, the minimal text couples well with the crisp, brightly colored digital illustrations, which are surrounded by ample white space. The amiable father-and-son duo d their impressive toy collection ll appeal to a wide variety, especially those who have been on the giving or receiving ends of a bedtime routine.

'Bedtime?' 'Not yet.'

School Library Journal (Tue Mar 01 00:00:00 CST 2016)

PreS-Gr 1 In typical bedtime fashion, this boy does not want to go down when it's time. He would much rather imagine being a train conductor, a jet pilot, a race car driver, and so on. With each page turn, he invents a different scenario, until he finally tuckers himself out and gives in to sleep. The spare text allows for imaginative interpretation, which is what drives the story. Digitally rendered illustrations pop on mostly white backgrounds and serve to depict the imaginings of the boy. VERDICT Children and parents alike will be able to relate to the slight struggle and silly shenanigans that come as bedtime nears. Emily E. Lazio, The Smithtown Special Library District, NY
