With a rich assortment of color photos depicting animals from every continent and representing a wide variety of creatures from bugs to bears, this compilation is sure to pique the interest of nature buffs and kids delighted by disgusting behaviors. The natural and normal world of animal life includes a lot of mucus and vomit, not to mention the excretion of urine and feces as communication or protection, and "nostril excavation." The accessible facts, almost all in inset boxes, are presented with both scientific and slang terminology, as well as popular euphemisms, making this easy for the audience to negotiate. The subject matter is bound to delight and provoke giggles and wisecracks from some kids, scandalize the inhibitions of others, and engage students with animal homework assignments in the investigation of some really cool wildlife facts. A few suggested activities at the end include both Internet searches and outdoor observation, and comprehensive back matter, including a glossary, index, and resource list, will easily lead the reader to more elsewhere.

Welcome to a world that will make you say ewww!
We share Earth with millions of animals. Unlike our family pets, though, wild animals have to take care of themselves. The gross things they do are usually adaptations that help them survive.
Elephants and rhinos, for example, feed poop (also called feces) to their young so they will be able to digest plants. If the calves did not eat feces, they would starve to death. When gorillas and orangutans pick their noses and eat it, they aren't trying to gross us out. Instead, they are removing the dead skin and dried snot (called mucus) so they can smell food and nearby predators.
            On your mark . . . get set . . . say ewww!
