Soccer fans will delight in this photo-filled celebration of Abby Wambach, American soccer player, Women's World Cup champion, and two-time Olympic gold medalist. Part of the Sports MVPs series of leveled social studies readers, this fact-focused title boasts a pleasing square trim size and large text in an easy-to-read font. The straightforward narrative focuses on career facts rather than personal details, the exception being a page dedicated to Wambach's 2013 marriage to fellow soccer player Sarah Huffman. A few long sentences and words may be challenging for new readers, and soccer newbies may find themselves lost in a flurry of jargon even with the provided glossary. Nevertheless, this book is an excellent choice for a biography assignment, or it can be enjoyed as leisure reading for stats-loving soccer enthusiasts.
