Like the jungle cat from which it gets its name, the leopard seal is a spotted, efficient hunter. Supplemented by full-page photographs of the creatures in action, this book details leopard seals' habitats, diet, and streamlined form, which aids them in the water, in the extreme cold, and while hunting. The tone is more matter-of-fact than alarmist, although there is a mention of leopard attacks on humans, and a particularly stunning ending photo is sure to disabuse young readers of any deep-sea-diving notions they may be entertaining. An informative, highly readable, and high-interest series.
