This entry into the rather sophisticated Odysseys in Prose series introduces budding writers to different aspects of narration and point of view. Beginning with general information, Bodden moves on to discuss first-person narration (using a selection from Adventures of Huckleberry Finn), third-person limited narration (using Ambrose Bierce's "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge"), and third-person omniscient (using The History of Tom Jones, a Foundling). Though more contemporary titles might have been preferable, these get the job done. There are also suggested sidebars ("Think like a Writer") that encourage readers to play with narration. The elegant design uses a crisp typeface set against pure white backgrounds. The intriguing artwork runs from a photographic self-portrait by Vivian Maier to movie posters and authors' hand-written texts. Both the information and art will teach and intrigue young writers.
