Gr 2-5 Elliott, who is eight years old, wrote this guide (with the help of Canadian paleontologist Hans Larsson) after being inspired by a series of classes he took on paleontology. The book starts with a number of pages highlighting background information on the earth before dinosaurs and the origins and diets of these creatures. Diagrams, illustrations, and photographs accompany much of the text. The Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous eras are covered as well. The content is adequate for the intended audience, but the font size is small and may challenge readers. VERDICT Hats off to the young author for bringing this idea to fruition. Consider for collections in need of an introductory guide to dinosaurs or an example of a child author. Erin Olsen, The Brearley School, NY
