These books in the My Day Learning Science series explore each science topic through the lens of a fictional young child's personal experience. The clever use of stock photos both illustrates the topics and maintains the point of view by including children in many of the pictures, interacting with the subject being studied. The information in the titles, suitable for early readers, is brief and very basic. Even at this level, the amount of science in the books is uneven. Abby Flies a Kite is certainly about flying a kite but does not really live up to the subtitle, A Book about Wind, which is mentioned only in connection with its effects on the kite. Overall, prereaders and new readers will find these books a good basic introduction to these science topics.

Abby flies a kite, learning how the wind pushes and lifts; Nora pursues activities befitting each season, such as building a snowman in winter. Large easy-reader texts are supported by relevant stock photos, and new vocabulary words are presented in bold-colored type. Young readers should readily grasp the clearly, if rather blandly, presented concepts. Discussion questions are appended. Reading list. Glos.
