Horn Book
"Somebody / loves you / deep and true. / If I weren't / so bashful / I'd tell you / who." Hopkins gathers Valentine's Day poems by children's poets Rebecca Kai Dotlich, Heidi Bee Roemer, and others. Since these are easy-reader poems, they tend toward the roses-are-red variety, but they are all sweet and sometimes even funny. Adinolfi's art features lovestruck kids of different ethnicities.
School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 2 A simple, handsome book. Each spread consists of a brief sentence about fish life, anatomy, or behavior and a full-page, full-bleed watercolor painting. The text begins, "Fish live in water," and faces a picture of a brown trout. The specific form is identified in small italics at the bottom of the text page. More details and small black-and-white photos are included in an afterword. This pleasant title is a good companion to Robert Snedden's What Is a Fish? (Sierra Club, 1993) and Jim Arnosky's Crinkleroot's 25 Fish Every Child Should Know (S & S, 1993). Jean Pollock, King Country Library System, Seattle, WA
