In this sequel to Woof, Bowser, Birdie's large, loyal dog, has a second mystery to solve in the Louisiana bayous: someone broke into Birdie's house but didn't take anything. If only Bowser could communicate what his nose tells him! The dog's narration is again hilarious, but it doesnt detract from the serious issues of murder, grief, and job loss explored in the book.
ALA Booklist
Bowser loyally follows his human, Birdie, into a new mystery. Why would someone break into their home, tear it apart, but steal nothing? And why the reoccurring scents of lime aftershave and cat? Bowser happily relates Birdie's quest least the bits he understands d checks up on the new people in town, including Birdie's mama, back from the oil rig, and Junior, the town ne'er-do-well's son. False leads keep Birdie and Junior guessing as they learn new details about the murder of Birdie's father. The bayou, its colorful inhabitants, the well-paced plot, and Bowser's cheerfully unreliable narration make this a delightful sequel to Woof (2015).

The door hung crooked from the top hinge, the wood splintered right off the bottom one. My mood, which had been sky-high, began to change. Who was in charge of security at 19 Gentilly Lane? Me! So what was our door doing like this? I barked one of my short sharp barks, just getting my feelings out there. Then came a surprise, and not a good one: I picked up the scent of cat. Cat scent is one of the strongest scents out there, impossible to miss. A cat had been--and maybe still was at this very moment--inside our house? Don't there have to be some limits in this life? The next thing I knew I was running from room to room, head down, tail up, on high alert.
