School Library Journal

Gr 3-5-Two well-written, clear guides for youngsters interested in learning about the different types of maps and the best ways to utilize them. Both titles start with a broad definition of terms and hone in on more specific aspects as the discussions progress. The texts are straightforward and easy to read, without being dry or dull. Climate features detailed maps, though the small print of the legends makes reading them challenging at times, such as the one showing plant hardiness. Road covers maps, legends, and the rose compass and then moves into direction, scale, using map grids, and the type of information often found on the backs of maps. The illustrations are crisp and easy to follow. Solid additions for libraries needing to update their map collections.-Lisa Gangemi Kropp, Middle Country Public Library, Centereach, NY Copyright 2007 Reed Business Information.
