Chancelor Bennett was born to a middle-class family on the South Side of Chicago. Growing up, he was a regular kid who loved reading Harry Potter books. Chance knew from a young age he wanted to be a rapper, and his grandmother gave him the beginning tools in supporting his musical dreams. As a teenager, Chance realized that he was not meant for academic success and pursuing a college degree, and instead found solace in performing and music. One of the ways Chance was able to rise to the top was by using technology in his favor as an unaffiliated artist. Readers of this entry in the Hip-Hop Artists series will receive an in-depth look at Chance's musical influences, personal life, philanthropy, and love of Chicago. Readers should make good use out of the book's time line, sidebars, "Essential Facts," glossary, vocabulary words, and additional resources for young readers passionate about the music. A concise look at Chance's humble rise as an independent artist to a world-renowned rapper.
