From its slyly political title on, the Making America Great: Immigrant Success Stories series explores the achievements of immigrants and the ways in which they have bettered the U.S. across disciplines. Chapters in Famous Immigrant Athletes focus on individuals such as tennis star Martina Navratilova, born in the former Czechoslovakia, and Jamaican-born basketball player Patrick Ewing; special attention is paid to the hardships they had to overcome and the ways in which they've inspired people. The layout is text heavy, and Artists especially would have benefited from more illustrations, but sidebars explain more about immigration and the factors that cause a person to leave his or her home. A valuable, if verbose, reminder about America's strengths.
