The Events That Changed America series offers snapshots of important moments in American history. These compact books have plenty of visuals that work well with the brisk texts. The Battle of the Alamo, illustrated with historical art, explains the events surrounding the fight between Mexico and Texas, including tactics and political considerations. Although a number of important players are mentioned, Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie surprisingly only get a captioned photo. Each book features quotations from only a couple of sources, "Fast Facts," a time line, and critical-thinking questions. Good entry points into American history.
