Aspiring dog owners looking for introductory tips on particular breeds would do well to start with these inviting titles in the Discover Dogs with the American Canine Association series, which briefly and enthusiastically profiles types of dogs. Each volume follows the same format, offering a succinct description of the breed, its typical activity levels, potential behavioral problems, how much it sheds, and how long it lives, all punctuated with appealing, full-color photos of adorable doggies. I Like Norwich Terriers! showcases this petite pup's distinguishing features (pointy ears, unlike the floppy ears of the similar Norfolk terrier) and tendency to dig holes. A note to parents about microchipping and neutering, along with an exhortation to adopt a dog from a shelter, is a nice touch, and though not entirely comprehensive, the books' gently instructive, encouraging tone should prompt young dog lovers to think hard about dog ownership and pet care.

Norwich terriers were originally bred to hunt rats and foxes. Author Linda Bozzo and the American Canine Association provide young readers with accessible information, more fun facts, and adorable full-color photographs of this pointy-eared, stocky terrier. Students will learn whether a puppy or adult dog is right for them, what to feed it, and how to keep it clean and healthy. In addition, this book includes a Note to Parents that stresses the importance of spaying or neutering and microchipping pets, a Words to Know section to help young readers master new vocabulary, and a Read About Dogs section to encourage deeper exploration into the topic.
