The 21st Century Skills Library: Global Citizens: Modern Media series (8 titles) looks at issues such as advertising, fake news, and here the relationship of politics and media ough there's little discussion of particular news websites and the controversy surrounding them. A brief history of news jumps from the American Revolution to the presidencies of Johnson and Nixon, calling them an "era of hostility and mistrust," though it doesn't mention issues, like yellow journalism, that paved the way. Subjects such as campaign finance, advertising, and news bias are briefly covered, while color photographs lend interest. A final page asks readers to think about the 2016 presidential election, but while it notes (without sourcing) the high percentage of negative stories about Donald Trump, it doesn't mention negative stories about Hillary Clinton. Useful as a discussion starting point.
