Horn Book
Rosamond is throwing a birthday party for her cousin Lizzie, whose four pet pythons give Nate the Great the shudders. But when the largest snake disappears during the festivities, the world's greatest detective must confront his fears to save the day. A winning new installment in the popular early-reader series, complete with its characteristic dry humor and clipped prose. Amusing spot art illustrates the chapters.
ALA Booklist
Nate the Great may be an intrepid detective, but that doesn't mean he's comfortable with snakes. Still, when an enormous ball python goes missing, Nate agrees to track down the escapee, and, with a little help from his friends and some useful information from a pet-shop owner, he succeeds. In the first series volume written by Andrew Sharmat and Marjorie Weinman Sharmat, the text maintains the familiar deadpan tone for Nate's narration, while his detective fervor is understandably dampened by his dread of encountering the python. Wheeler's appealing illustrations exaggerate the giant snake's size for dramatic and comic effect. An amusing addition to this dependable beginning-reader series.
Join the world’s greatest detective, Nate the Great, as he solves the mystery of his friend’s missing pet snake! Perfect for beginning readers and the Common Core, this long-running chapter book series will encourage children to problem-solve with Nate, using logical thinking to solve mysteries!
