Gr 2-5 Cody is ecstatic that her best friend Spencer is moving in around the corner; she can't wait to show him the ropes around school and the neighborhood. But Spencer doesn't seem to need her as much as Cody thought he would: the evil Mrs. Spindle actually takes a liking to him and Spencer seems to have no trouble making friends, leaving Cody on the outside. Add to that her run-ins with the Meens, territorial kids who live next door to Spencer, and Cody's got a lot to deal with this school year. Fans of the first adventure won't want to miss Cody's second, and kids who enjoy series with a standout voice will embrace this well-written series.

“Brimming with charm, delight, and a diverse cast of characters.” — Booklist

In Cody’s second neighborhood adventure, her best friend, Spencer, is moving in around the corner. Cody can’t wait: she needs Spencer to help solve the mystery of the never-seen Mr. Meen, who lives on the other side of the porch with a skull-and-crossbones sign in the window and an extermination truck out front. Spencer’s new-school jitters and the turf-claiming kids next door — who have their own reasons for acting out — make this year’s shift from summer into a new school year extra-confusing for Cody — and extra-delightful.
