Gr 7 Up Teens will think critically about current and historical events with the help of this media literacyfocused series. Each book features an anthology of New York Times articles on its subject's life, rise to fame, and impact. The volumes conclude with thoughtful questions that will let students and educators continue the conversation. That said, readers are presented with complex and somewhat conflicting information about current leaders, such as Donald J. Trump; additional resources may be needed to adequately address some of the events that go unmentioned in the books. Images are predominantly black-and-white, staying true to the series' newspaper column format, and each article stands on its own with little transition or analysis between segments. VERDICT A series that will challenge even seasoned readers, with Transgender Activists and Celebrities being the best title out of the bunch.

History has revealed to us the full depth of the horrific actions carried out under the leadership of Adolf Hitler in Nazi Germany. However, the articles in this collection offer a unique perspective: that of journalists and the public during Hitler's rise to power, conquest of Europe, and attempted extermination of Europe's Jewish population. The New York Times's coverage of Hitler ranged from wise warnings about the dangers he presented to profiles of his diet and private life. The various types of news stories in this book offer diverse takes on the rise of one of history's most despicable dictators and how the world responded to his bloodlust.
