Gr 1-3-Simple step-by-step instructions using a single shape in different colors lead young artists through the paces necessary to produce a cartoon fish, frog, or horse. The resulting schematic representations are not at all inspired, but do bear a resemblance to the animal in question. The text, in both Spanish and English, is blandly instructional. Ed Emberley's Big Orange Drawing Book (1980) or Ed Emberley's Big Green Drawing Book (1979, both Little, Brown) allow more play of the imagination, and give youngsters the option of creating numerous figures.
