Bobby is shy, but his beagle Lucy helps him make friends. When Lucy gets lost chasing a cat, Bobby searches everywhere for her and even gets up the courage to ask strangers if they've seen her. Stilted dialogue, stereotyped characters, and a heavy-handed message limit the appeal of this advanced chapter book, which is illustrated with occasional black-and-white sketches.
