K-Gr 1-Two class hamsters go back to school after summer break and discover that the new kids do not know their names. Embarrassed by being called Tummy and Fluffy, Max and Mo sneak out of their cage at night to make their own name tags. The next day, the little creatures are called by their right names. With plenty of simple sentences and easy vocabulary, this book will delight beginning readers. The pencil-and-watercolor illustrations are filled with activity as the hamsters set about their task, and the book concludes with directions for making a rolled-up name tag like Max's and Mo's.-Erika Qualls, Ela Area Public Library District, Lake Zurich, IL Copyright 2007 Reed Business Information.

In School, hamster friends Max and Mo move to the art room (though it's unclear why), sneak out of their cage, and make nametags for themselves. In Apple, they snack on some homemade applesauce (recipe included). Though the plots are confusing, the vocabulary is easy to read; clean, delicate-line illustrations add appeal. A craft project is appended to each story.

In a series of adorable Level 1 Ready-to-Reads, award-winning author Patricia Lakin and the ever-talented Brian Floca tell the story of two hamsters who live in a classroom as pets. Mo, a hamster who likes to know things, and Max, a hamster who likes to make things, team up to bust out of their cage and explore their art class/home during holiday time.

In each story, these furry friends learn about a holiday and make a tie-in craft that readers learn to make too, thanks to Patty's simple instructions in the back of each book.
