As a medium, Harper can communicate with ghosts and is sensitive to their spiritual energy. She's vanquished evil spirits before, but when her family goes on a trip to the Caribbean, she struggles to connect with Razu Island's spirits. Their resort hotel was remodeled after a grisly group murder left behind 16 hideously dismembered bodies, and people have been disappearing ever since at the hands of the Soul Eaters, a group of pale-skinned, eyeless, long-clawed, fanged demons. They are ancient evil, crouched in waiting, and Harper's family could be next. This second book in the Spirit Hunters series does a great job of standing alone as an adventure. The plot kicks off quickly, escalates at a satisfying pace, and ends with the characters in a safe, resolved space while also leaving room for future adventures. While the dialogue is weak at times and there are some logic gaps, it's truly terrific to see Korean culture represented so thoughtfully, and this book will be hugely satisfying to people craving a new scary tale.
