Within the titles of the A Nation of Immigrants series (8 titles), young readers will find familiar and not so familiar individuals, all immigrants, who have made great contributions in the fields of sports, entertainment, medicine, and the arts. Arts focuses on poetry, dance, and art and features individuals such as artist Mark Rothko. Each slim volume contains a double-page spread for each of the 12 featured individuals, briefly detailing their childhood, move to the United States, and accomplishments; boxed quick facts and statistics are also included. Sentences at times are brief and choppy, but overall the text is interesting and informative. Photographs of these exceptional people, as well as images related to their work, are included with each biography, and online resources and relevant news articles are also available for each title via the publisher's website. Each volume concludes with brief paragraphs on four additional immigrants who made contributions in their field, along with standard back matter. A thoughtfully curated series that highlights important contributions by immigrants.
