Former rehabilitation-camp prisoner Suzume, "Zu," is now a spokesperson for the post President Gray government, but an attack at a speaking event puts Zu's Psi powers on full and scary display mplete with casualties she takes to the road with two unknown rescuers. Zu knows there's more to Roman and Priya than meets the eye, and eventually the three join familiar friends from the Darkest Minds series to try to bring down a corrupt company that is still stealing and torturing children. The story is fast-paced and engrossing, but readers will need the background from earlier entries in the series to keep track of characters and events and to understand the dire situation as it unfolds. Zu's first-person narration creates maximum suspense as events escalate in intensity, and an occasional flashback keeps the story off-balance in a way that ups the ante for the good guys. Although several threads are wrapped up by book's end, there is room for more installments in this popular series.
