ALA Booklist (Mon Mar 01 00:00:00 CST 1999)

Both subject matter and word usage are right on target for new readers. A young boy is brushing his teeth and rushing about when he feels a loose tooth. His other teeth are still stuck tight . . . still like to bite, but the loose one makes its presence felt. Matching the easy-to-relate-to text is the especially nice artwork. Rounded shapes and unusual perspectives will keep kids turning pages. This Step into Reading book is an excellent choice for the new-reader shelves. (Reviewed March 15, 1999)

One little boy's loose tooth takes time to fall out; he goes to the zoo and to school while bouncing about and munching various tooth-extracting foods. The large typeface and the simple word repetition in the rhyming text is suitable for early readers, while the flat illustrations quietly reinforce the comfortably predictable story.

PreS-Gr 1-The perils of a loose tooth that refuses to come out are chronicled in this beginning reader. The simple, rhyming text, with only a few words per page, contains some challenging vocabulary such as "twist" and "crunching." The story is lean and the pastel watercolor illustrations are bland. Since there are many books available on the subject, this one won't be missed.-Ann Cook, Winter Park Public Library, FL Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.
