In a meandering story, Penguin Pete returns to his habitat, meets and marries blue-beaked girl penguin Pat, and begins raising green-beaked son Tim with her. Small conflicts arise--e.g., Pete must find Pat after their first meeting--but each issue is resolved far too quickly. As in the character's other books, the shadowy-lined illustrations are the only distinctive aspect.
