In the evening, a brother and sister (possibly fraternal twins) contentedly end their day by putting away their toys, taking off their capes, climbing into their bunk beds, and going to sleep. It's clear from clues in the artwork as well as phrases in the text that their costumes, drawings, and play were inspired by their superhero dreams. Enhanced with well-chosen colors, patterns, and textures, the illustrations feature clearly drawn figures of the children. While the rhyming text addresses a single child as "little superhero," the fact that a girl and a boy share the spotlight enables any young listener to feel included by the narrator. As easygoing, rhythmic, and soothing as a lullaby, the lines sound natural and reassuring to the end: "Now let's rest your superpowers, / so when you need them / they'll be strong. / You can save the world tomorrow. / Tonight, you're home where you belong." This appealing picture book is just right for bedtime reading. Adams' and Marley's companion volume, Goodnight, Little Dancer, will be published simultaneously.
