Annotation: "There's been a lot of buzz lately about how some of the Founding Fathers' values were different from our own. So how exactly does a 200-year-old document relate to our contemporary society? This book discusses the origin of the Bill of Rights, details each of the first ten amendments, and helps readers connect these fundamental rights with present-day issues. Colorful graphics, photographs, and informative fact boxes-in addition to accessible vocabulary-make this complex topic easy to read about"--

ALA Booklist (Thu Apr 01 00:00:00 CDT 2021)

The Rosen Verified: US Government series (6 titles) offers children accessible entry points into the workings of our country. Each volume consists of 24 double-page spreads that explore individual topics. The writing styles of the authors are similar and feature engaging text and relatable examples. Pages are filled with interesting fonts, highlighted paragraphs, and colorful illustrations: photos, charts, maps, and graphs. The Bill of Rights cites current events as it explores civil liberties, bringing in the March for Our Lives, Patriot Act, ERA, and LBGTQ+ activism. Series coverage is current only through 2019, so there's no mention of COVID-19, Black Lives Matter, or Too, and while each volume offers a glossary, there are no chapter notes or sources. Still, this graphic-rich series offers basic information in an easily digestible format that will enhance school and public library collections.
