The seven-volume continent series has an abundant amount of information with sections such as economy, location and resources, the past, and culture. Although brief, the books cover a variety of topics that students can use for assignments. Each section contains fast facts, great pictures, brainteasers, a glossary, and a further reading list that includes both books and Web addresses. There are no permanent residents in Antarctica, so the indigenous people section instead discusses the origin of Antarctica, while the cultural group section provides information on the scientific researchers stationed there throughout the year and the communities they have constructed. The arts and entertainment section focuses on the activities of the scientists in their spare time. In Africa, the information on cultural groups gives students an insight into the vast number of different languages spoken on the continent. Many different cultural groups live in the same country and also stretch across borders into neighboring nations, causing conflicts that can sometimes escalate into civil wars. This series covers basic information about each of the continents, divided into sections that will aid and interest the reader. The fast facts and colorful pictures break up the pages, making them attractive and easily read. These books are great tools for middle school and public libraries.-Jennifer Rummel.
