Country Music Stars is a high/low series; the reading level is at third grade, but the topics will appeal to an older audience. The very simple text appears as a sentence or two per page. Facing is an attractive, crisp color photo, usually of the star in concert. The information given is brief and to the point: in Miranda Lambert, readers learn that the performer writes her own songs and plays the guitar. She appeared on the national stage after coming in third in the Nashville Stars television contest. More diverse photos and a tad more information would help, but for kids who want or need a very quick read, this nicely designed series will do the job. A time line, a glossary, and several resources are appended in each volume.
