Gr 3-4-These brief titles introduce important episodes in United States history. Approximately one paragraph is devoted to each major event associated with the primary topic. On the opposing page, an ongoing time line lists the date (year only) with a brief explanatory sentence for each relevant milestone. For example, in Constitutional Convention, one page presents readers with a paragraph providing an overview of the Revolutionary War. The facing page offers a chronology of specific dates and events, such as the year in which fighting first broke out, the year France entered the war, and so forth. Obviously, this format provides only a broad overview of important issues. Considering their brevity, it is particularly unfortunate that these titles lack suggestions for further reading. Plenty of photographs, reproductions, and boxed information add interest. This series may be useful as an introduction for students preparing to write a report but should not be their sole stop on the research trail.-Deanna Romriell, Salt Lake City Library, UT Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
