Horn Book (Tue Aug 01 00:00:00 CDT 2006)

Admirable in their attempts to convey pivotal periods in U.S. history for reluctant readers, these comic-book treatments nonetheless have many weaknesses, including redundant dialogue/exposition and ineffective visuals. Gettysburg lacks maps, and the illustrations in Express contain an odd mixture of weather-beaten faces and frosty, digitally rendered landscapes. Reading list. Bib., glos., ind.
