Familiar Disney characters appear in new tales with a spooky edge. With their school closed because of nearby wildfires, Billie and Tim are spending their day at the Walt Disney Archives in Burbank, California. The book uses what Disney fan Billie is reading as a springboard, weaving together the present day and the fairy tales Billie and Tim slip into, as in the story "The Spirit Hunter," about the demon from Fantasia. When Tim disappears into a mirror he finds in the archives, Billie follows him on an adventure through dangerous Disney storylines with villains like Ursula and the Headless Horseman. Larson's illustrations are eerie and beautiful, and they also help readers track the threads of the storyline. All of the action that takes place in present-day Burbank is typeset in white against a solid black background. When Billie and Tim are in the world of Disney tales, there are ornate, themed borders surrounding each page along with a smattering of illustrations. One especially stunning full-page illustration depicts a skull with a brilliant diamond eye. The story gets a bit murky toward the end, becoming a confusing fumble through mirrors and timelines. One illustration shows Billie as a Black girl; most other characters are assumed White. Not just for fans of Disney; chilling and compelling despite a puzzling plotline. (Paranormal. 8-12)
What you are holding is no ordinary book. This book contains scary stories. Thrilling and chilling tales that feature the worst Disney villains. They twist and turn through unfortunate circumstances. Maybe youve heard of a cave full of wonders where no one escapes alive? Or a huntsman carrying a a princesss heart back to an evil queen? Dont forget the horseman who lost his head. Literally.
Something strange happens once you start reading. You might feel like you are in the story.
Right. Inside. The. Pages.
Just ask Billie Templeton. She knows allabout scary stories. Billie would rather such tales stay inside her book where they belong. If only her classmate, Tim, hadnt found the mirror. The magic mirror. A mirror wrapped up and never to be opened.
But since when does Tim follow the rules?
Consider yourself warned.
Chilling tales, filled with twists and turns will leave you on the edge of your seat! Perfect for fans of Goosebumps and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
