In her latest picture book, Canadian author and international speaker Smith delivers a message of hope that all children in a community will experience love, joy, and acceptance. The simple text and full-bleed illustrations in soft, warm-hued watercolors depict the happy, round faces of a diverse range of children as they enthusiastically experience their world. Big smiles show their happiness with belly laughs, hugs, and snuggles from family members and active outdoor play, from picnics to fishing to fun in the snow. The ingredients for happiness express the hope that children will experience and practice kindness, helpfulness, curiosity, respect for others, and support from family, including loving parents and grandparents. Other goals include caring for Mother Earth and having healthful food, clean water, and a safe place to sleep. The book ends with, "I hope you always remember that you are special and you matter." A good platform to discuss children's hopes, which is useful in both group and one-on-one settings.
