A girl and her mother feast on food from around the world, but no matter how much they love their meals, the girl knows that Mom loves her best. First, they make sushi from Japan and Korea, then biscotti from Italy and Louska bread from the Czech Republic. Next comes canja from Portugal and couscous from Morocco, megadarra from Egypt and smorgastarta from Sweden. They cook crepes from France, and then jambalaya from the US. Last but not least, the two try samosas from India and Pakistan. All this eating is a source of pleasure and learning, but what is most important to the girl is that she and her mom have experienced it together. Readers will get a taste of what it takes to prepare these delicacies and an idea of their flavors and textures. Origins of the foods are clearly noted, and the text is accompanied by colorful illustrations of the girl and her mother cooking as a team. A nice introduction to the concept of multiculturalism and different foods, served with warmth and smiles. (Picture book. 3-6)
