Gale adds to its popular American Decades series with this volume surveying the people and events that defined the period, from O. J and Oprah to the Starr Report, the bull market, and the explosion of the Internet.

Gr 9 Up-This useful, well-organized work offers terse insights into what happened during the decade as well as chronologies; lists; and information on trends, people in the news, awards, deaths, and publications. The 13 thematic chapters cover "World Events," "The Arts," "Business and the Economy," "Education," "Fashion," "Science and Technology," and other broad subject areas. As with many brief summary tools, there is an occasional penchant to interpret for readers. However, this is mostly a straightforward recitation of events, facts, and dates. A 55-page general index and an index of photographs conclude the volume. The black-and-white photographs are generally small, but illustrative. A clear and concise resource.-John Palmer, Bryan & College Station Library System, Bryan, TX Copyright 2001 Cahners Business Information.
