Starred Review Diversity is our world's heartbeat, and this book in the Racial Justice in America: Latinx American (6 titles) does an excellent job of educating readers about differences between the titular terms. It takes care to provide context for this discussion by first talking about the concept of ethnicity and then providing well-researched presentations on the background of each term so that readers understand how to best use it. The book also offers side-by-side text, one side of each spread presenting the information in English while the other provides the Spanish translation. As readers dive in, they will also learn about the history of Latin America (including the huge role played by colonialism), where each term originated, and how correctly using these terms really depends on how someone self-identifies. This book is perfect for educational settings given its rounded perspective, and it even offers thoughtful research and activity prompts after the main text. An inclusive resource on an important topic.
