Jay's father is a bigfoot tracker, which means family camping trips often include nighttime walks in the woods with infrared goggles and banging sticks against trees to communicate with nearby Sasquatch. This trip, however, takes a turn when they are charged by an actual bigfoot, as muscular, hairy, and huge as legends have foretold. Since Jay is carrying his little sister, their father distracts the beast deeper into the woods, shouting for his children to get to safety. But safety isn't in the cards, and they are left alone, fatherless, in the woods at the mercy of Sasquatch d something much more sinister. This pulse-pounding survival tale takes several unexpected twists along its path. It adroitly tackles topics from bravery, acceptance, and tolerance to animal abuse and cruelty, and the issues of parental separation and grief also emerge. Jay is an upstanding, quick-thinking everyman teen hero and a terrific older brother who saves the day in an unexpected and satisfying way. Overall, it's a terrific addition to the high/low canon for readers seeking a thrill.

Jay doesn't believe in Bigfoot.

His dad loves hunting for Bigfoot, but searching for a mythical creature in the dark isn't Jay's idea of fun. Especially because he always gets stuck looking out for his little sister while his dad plays with the cool gear, like night-vision goggles. But while out on a camping trip, a large creature starts hunting them, and then Jays father goes missing. Jay is forced to start tracking the creature himself while still keeping his sister safe. It turns out that not only is Bigfoot real but it isn't the only threat in the woods. Theres a different kind of monster out here, one who is armed with a gun. Jay must act fast to save his father before its too late. And he needs Bigfoots help to do it.
