School Library Journal

Gr 1-4--While there are several books written for children about death and dying, this one focuses on what happens during and after funerals, grieving, the cemetery, the grave, and cremation. Specific terms are in boldface, along with a phonetic pronunciation. The print is large, the sentences are direct, and the chapters are short. Adjacent to each page of text is a clear, corresponding full-color photograph. This book deals with a confusing, sometimes frightening subject in a simple way, providing just enough information to answer many questions youngsters may have. It's an excellent book for classroom teachers, counselors, and librarians to offer children and parents of children who have lost a loved one.--Susan Knell, Pittsburgh State University, Pittsburgh, KS
