Annotation: Himari Akeno can't wait to start high school! Even though she's parting ways with her twin sister, Mio, Himari's enthusiasm to start this new chapter of her life is palpable--that is, until a traumatic incident sends her home to hide in her room ... Watching Himari's dreams shatter is more than Mio can bear, especially when her sister still longs for an ordinary student life. Determined to see her twin get back out into the world, Mio "catches a cold" and convinces her sister to fill in until she "recovers." As long as the shy, introverted Himari can pull off impersonating the bubbly, energetic Mio, nothing could go wrong right?

A story about a young girl whose twin is determined to help her overcome trauma, Sunbeams in the Sky is a wonderful manga about sisterly affection and growth. Inseparable for most of their lives, identical twins Himari and Mio go to different high schools til Himari is attacked after gently rejecting a boy so she can focus on her studies. When Himari isolates herself at home, Mio comes up with a plan to pull her sister back into daily life: she convinces Himari to take her place every so often at her school, where Himari slowly begins to form connections with others. The building of trust and the unwavering support the twins have for each other make this a gentle and refreshing read. The twin swapping is convincing but not confusing; it's always clear who each twin is. While the story starts on a dark note, it is ultimately uplifting, and the reflections on trauma and how it can impact a person's life are thoughtful.
