From the dependable What You Will See Inside series, this introduces the beliefs and practices of the Hindu religion. The book opens with a traditional Sanskrit word of greeting, Namaste (I salute God within you), setting the respectful, inviting tone of the text, which leads readers into a temple. The book explains what can be seen there and discusses Hindu beliefs, worship practices, scriptures, celebrations, blessing ceremonies, and family shrines in homes. A typical double-page spread includes one large color photograph and a few small ones illustrating several paragraphs of clear, concise text. The attractive design and many illustrations make the book accessible even to primary-grade children with good reading skills or adult assistance. An informative introduction.

Gr 5-8-This colorful, attractive introduction to Hinduism focuses on worship in the temple although it also covers major scriptures, festivals, and life events. Each spread treats a different aspect of the religion, accompanied by color photos. The information is generally thorough and complete. Without a glossary, however, it is difficult to remember unfamiliar words from page to page. Sue Penney's Hinduism (Heinemann Library, 2000) offers a more comprehensive overview.-Ann W. Moore, Schenectady County Public Library, NY Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.
