In the Bunny Reads Back series, Wells presents familiar rhymes and songs in board-book format with this advice to parents: Read to your bunny often, and your bunny will read to you. In other words, these traditional rhymes are so simple and memorable that children will soon be reciting them back to parents as they turn the pages. In Mountain, a little bear bids his mother goodbye, then heads up the mountain with his basket. He reaches the top, looks around, and descends to give his mother a basket of flowers. The little bear's cheerful independence and his affection for his mother will resonate with young children and their parents as they deal with separation issues. Wells' charming ink-and-watercolor illustrations lift this title above the level of most board books. Parents will be looking for others in the series.

Reprints of books published in England in 1940. In one small adventure, Sam Pig breaks the family clock and sets off to find another; in the next he brings his family to a play. The tiny volumes and delicate drawings suit the quiet stories.

PreS--This board-book series is based on the concept that preschoolers will learn to "read" by turning the pages, looking at the pictures and words, and singing the familiar songs that they have memorized. In Bear, a cub leaves his mother to make the trek up the side of the mountain, basket of flowers in hand. He looks around and returns to his mother's arms after tumbling down the hill. In the final frame, he attempts the trip again. In Itsy-Bitsy, a goose wanders near a drainpipe at the corner of a house and a spider plops out of nowhere onto its beak. Filled with humor and warmth, Wells's colorful illustrations bring new life to these favorite rhymes. Simple and short with large print, these cozy books will be welcome additions.--Blair Christolon, Prince William Public Library System, Manassas, VA
