Gr 2-4 The best features of these dramatically illustrated books are the graphic design and the "Danger Meter" showing the relative deadliness of each threat, but the texts lack real information. The chapter names progress from "Sort of Dangerous" to "Extremely Dangerous," and each one gives a few brief examples of things that are rated at that level. The layout is attractive with large photographs, graphic details such as tire tread marks on the spread of Deadliest Places that discusses cars, and plenty of skull outlines stamped on sidebars throughout. These titles were designed for shock value and cover attraction. They resemble a super-hyped commercial for a nature show, without the benefit of the content. Sharon R.
