"There may be times when I lose the light / And let my spirits sink... / But I can't stay depressed / When I remember how I'm blessed!" Though the warm and fuzzy illustrations feature young children and animal friends, the song lyrics, full of adult concerns and concepts, have nothing to interest a picture book audience. Music (all four pages of it) and a CD of Art Garfunkel performing the song are included.
School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 4-This gentle song is sung by Art Garfunkel on an accompanying CD. It is a celebration of the beauty of the seasons, the wonder of nature, and the meaning of faith. Hakkarainen's soft-focused, luminous illustrations grace each page. Some of the words and ideas are challenging for a young audience; for example, "In a world that can bring pain,/I will still take each chance-/For I believe that whatever the terrain/Our feet can learn to dance." The concept of faith is stressed here, with the reference to believing "in a hand you cannot see." Nevertheless, go ahead, learn the song, and by all means, sing it from the heart.-Sandra Kitain, Abrams Hebrew Academy, Yardley, PA Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
