Fragments of art and text from Goodnight Moon are cut and rearranged to follow the alphabet. A few of these work, but some of the objects are merely background in the original illustrations (e.g., e for elephant) while other items are a stretch (u for under the covers). The open design is attractive.

Repurposing Hurd's original illustrations, this abecedarian adaptation pairs letters of the alphabet (and corresponding words) with objects and elements from the ""great green room,"" including kittens, paintings, and a red balloon. The myriad objects and Hurd's ever-striking orange and green palette lend themselves well to the ABC format. And in keeping with the nature of the source material, the book concludes, not with a zebra, but with some bedtime zzzzs. Up to 5. (July)

PreS-K Familiar objects in the classic story are arranged in alphabetical order and accompanied by upper- and lowercase letters in the original style and palette. &4; Ii In the great green room/ Jj Jump over the moon.&4; Letter &4;X&4; appears as the crossed arms of a pole dryer that holds pink mittens from clothespins and &4; Zz Zzzz&30;&4; is accompanied by the line &4;Goodnight noises everywhere.&4; Endpapers show the entire alphabet being investigated by two mice.
